Whether grown in your own garden or bought at the market, peas are a fun and functional vegetable. Here are some great ways to make sure no pea goes to waste.
1. Freeze Them
Peas are easy to freeze and great to have on hand for all types of recipes. Spread on a baking sheet, and transfer them to a reusable container or bag once they’re frozen.
2. Add Them To Pesto
Combine peas, parmesan, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, basil and leftover fresh herbs in a food processor and blend until smooth.
3. Make Soup
Blend up your peas into a comforting pea and ham soup. This is also a great way to use up your leftover ham roast.
If you’ve got mint on hand, try a pea mint soup – delicious hot or chilled.
4. Add To Pasta Or Rice
Sprinkle a handful of peas into your favourite pasta or rice recipe to introduce a pop of colour and fun.
5. Enjoy Them Fresh
Just-picked young bright green peas are sweet, crunchy and delicious – and perfect for snacking. Or cook them up with butter, salt and pepper for one of life’s ultimate simple pleasures.
Did You Know?
Peas only need just enough water to cover them to cook. Be careful not to overcook as boiling or long steaming will increase water absorption and make your peas soggy and mushy. At that point, both flavour and nutrients will be sacrificed.
