If you have children, you more than likely have encountered the bread crust battle! Here are 5 ways to use up bread crusts so none go to waste, no matter how picky the eater.
1. Freeze Them
Store crusts in your freezer in an airtight reusable freezer-friendly container until you have enough for your next turkey or roast chicken dish.
2. Make Bread Crumbs
This is a great way to use up stale dry bread that’s been left on the counter for a couple days. Break the bread into pieces and process it into coarse crumbs. Season with some dried herbs, or not, and store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
3. Make Croutons
Cut bread ends and crusts into cubes. Toss in a bowl with oil or butter and your choice of seasoning and herbs. Bake in the oven at 375°F until golden, usually about 10 minutes.
4. Make Chips
Savoury or sweet, the choice is yours. We’re partial to garlic bread chips for savoury cravings and cinnamon sugar bread chips for those days you want something sweet. Make both!
5. Make French Toast Or Bread Pudding
Soak bread in a whisked mixture of egg, milk, melted butter and a touch of vanilla and cinnamon, then pan or griddle cook to convert those undesirable crusts into a favourite breakfast or dessert treat.
