Strawberries

We wait all year for berry season, but these little bursts of flavour have a short shelf life. Although they are best enjoyed fresh and plump, we’ve got 5 ways to use up bruised strawberries.

1. Add Flavour To Your Drinks

Add your overripe strawberries to a smoothie, milkshake, blended cocktail sangria or fruit punch.

2. Freeze Them

Wash and cut off the tops and freeze. Frozen berries come in handy when you want to pop a couple into smoothies, make a jam or have a tasty topping for French toast.

3. Preserve Them

Making jam is easy and delicious. You can even pickle strawberries – they are great in salads, with cheese or desserts.

4. Make A Compote Or Sauce

Overripe strawberries are perfect for making a compote topping that brings flavour and colour to your breakfast toast or dessert.

5. Use Them In Baking

Mix the berries into sweet breads, baked French toast, muffin batter, pancake mix, pies, cobblers or any baked treat.
