What is the best storage for kiwis? Can you freeze kiwis? How long do kiwis last in the fridge? We have answers to all of these food-saving questions and storage tips:
Best Storage
The countertop is the best place to store kiwis until they are ripe. Once they are ripe they should be refrigerated to prolong their shelf life.
Can I Freeze It?
Yes.
Cut your kiwifruit in half or peel it before freezing, as a whole kiwifruit could split open.
If a kiwi becomes too ripe before you can eat it, or you want to keep it for longer, you can pop it in the freezer until you’re ready to make a delicious smoothie.
Fresher For Longer
You can check the ripeness of kiwifruit by holding it in the palm of your hand and gently squeezing the fruit. If it is firm but gives a little, it’s ripe, sweet and ready to eat.
Use It Up
Slice, scoop and eat as a snack, or use kiwis in fruit salsas, parfaits, smoothies, jams, sauces or salads.
Did You Know?
Green kiwifruit can act as a meat tenderizer! Green kiwis contain a natural enzyme that is highly effective in breaking down the protein and connective tissues of meat.
Use the leftover kiwi skin and rub it onto both sides of the meat. You can also make a marinade by puréeing the flesh and combining with two tablespoons olive oil and one teaspoon apple cider vinegar. Season and place in a plastic bag with your meat (steak, pork or chicken all work well). Marinate for 15 minutes.
