Social Media Contest for Plan It. Use It. Eat It.

Contest Information & Rules (Terms & Conditions)

June 17 – June 25 2019

*For each Contest Entrant who is a minor (under the age of majority in their province of residence), the legal guardian of the Entrant must read these Terms & Conditions and each reference to the “Entrant” shall mean both the Entrant and the legal guardian of the Entrant.


1.1 Love Food Hate Waste Canada is a campaign that was launched in 2018 by the National Zero Waste Council, an initiative of Metro Vancouver Regional District (“MVRD”), in collaboration with campaign partners with the goal of helping Canadians make the most of the food they love.

1.2 Love Food Hate Waste Canada is modelled on WRAP United Kingdom’s successful initiative of the same name. It is a national campaign aimed at educating residents about avoidable food waste and inspiring them to change behaviour to help solve the issue. The campaign offers simple tips and actions individuals can take to reduce food waste in their homes. Learn more at


2.1 This Contest is intended to raise awareness about wasted food in homes across Canada and help residents understand that they can make small changes to help solve the issue.

2.3 IMPORTANT: By participating in this Contest, each Entrant hereby declares that he or she:

(a) has read, understood and complied with the Terms & Conditions set out in this document; and

(b) agrees to abide by all decisions of MVRD related to this Contest.

2.4 The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, municipal and local laws. MVRD reserves the right to modify or terminate this Contest at any time without notice to the Entrants.


3.1 The Contest will be accepting entries from June 17 to June 24, 2019. Entries must be received by no later than June 24, 2019 at 11:59:00 PM (Pacific Daylight Time)


4.1 The Contest is open to legal residents of Canada except Quebec that engage with our social media post. Void where prohibited by law.


5.1 No purchase is necessary. To participate, each Entrant must take all of the following steps:

(a) Share your photo and tips of how you are reducing food waste (recipes, dishes, fridge clean-outs, etc.) on your Instagram and/or Facebook account;

(b) Tag on Facebook using @LoveFoodHateWaste and @Sobeys and/or tag on Instagram using @lfhw_ca and @Sobeys; and

(c) Like or follow Love Food Hate Waste Canada on Facebook and/or Instagram. In order to be eligible to enter the contest, your Facebook and/or Instagram account must be publically accessible and you must not use any tools or mechanisms which prevent data sharing or otherwise limit the contest administrator MVRD’s ability to view your post and count your entry.

5.2 If the Entrant is a minor (under the age of majority in the province of residence), the legal guardian of the Entrant must read and agree to these Terms & Conditions.

5.3 There is no limit on the number of entries that can be submitted by each Entrant.


6.1 By entering the Contest, each Entrant acknowledges, represents, and warrants the following:

(a) The Entrant acknowledges that he or she has read and fully complied with these Terms & Conditions;

(b) The Entrant understands that any breach of these Terms & Conditions will result in the immediate forfeiture of any prize that the Entrant may be eligible to win;

(c) The Entrant grants to MVRD exclusive permission to produce, reproduce, use, perform, publish, display and distribute photographs and video footage entered by the Entrant in this social media contest, in whole or in part, in any manner and in any media, either presently existing or created in the future and in perpetuity for educational, public information, promotional, or any other lawful purpose related to Love Food Hate Waste Canada including for publicity, illustration, advertising, and internet content, with or without the Entrant’s full name or their Instagram and/or Facebook account name and without demand for royalties or compensation;

(d) The Entrant grants permission to MVRD to edit, modify, alter and juxtapose the photographs and video footage and incorporate them either in whole or in part with or without other material, including text and other recordings and images;

(e) The Entrant waives any right to inspect or approve the photographs or video footage or any derivatives of them;

(f) The Entrant agrees to the publication of his or her full name and Instagram and Facebook account name on any of Love Food Hate Waste Canada’s social media mediums if the Entrant’s entry is selected as the winner of the Contest; and

(g) The Entrant hereby releases and forever discharges MVRD and Sobeys Capital Incorporated and their respective directors, officers, employees, agents and contractors from any and all actions, causes of action, claims, suits, demands, damages, interest, expenses or compensation of whatever kind, whether known or unknown, suspected or unsuspected, arising in law or in equity, including without limitation any matters arising in connection with participating in the Contest, receiving and making use of any of the prizes awarded, and any errors or omissions in the offer or administration of this contest, including but not limited to errors in the advertising, the contest rules, the selection and announcement of the winner, or the distribution of any prize.

6.2 Contest entrants acknowledge and agree that Sobeys Capital Incorporated’s sole and exclusive role in the Contest is that of supplier of the Prize and that Sobeys Capital Incorporated and its direct and indirect parents, subsidiaries and affiliates, are in no way responsible for the administration of this Contest or the selection of winners. By entering this Contest, the Entrant warrants that any participant in this social media contest agrees to the Contest Terms and Conditions, including without limitation the terms of this section 6.


7.1 After the closing date for the Contest on June 24, 2019, selection of the winners will take place by way of random draw on June 25, 2019. The winner will be drawn using a random numeric generation system.


8.1 MVRD will notify the winner(s) by contacting the winner using the Instagram or Facebook account associated with that Entrant.

8.2 The winner must respond to MVRD by e-mail to within 72 hours of such notification, by providing to MVRD within such 72 hours the following required information and documentation:

(a) The Entrant’s full legal name and residential address for mailing; and

(b) A completed and signed Contest Release & Acknowledgment, in the form as set out in Schedule A attached hereto.

8.3 Failure of the winner to respond to MVRD by providing to MVRD the required information and documentation within 72 hours of MVRD notification will result in the immediate forfeiture of the prize to the winner. MVRD will confirm any forfeiture of the prize by notifying the Entrant on the Instagram or Facebook account associated with that Entrant.

8.4 In the event of such a forfeiture, MVRD will hold a second random draw (as set out in section 7 above) to select a new winner. The new winner must comply with the above rules for notification, response and provision of required information and documentation within the stipulated timeframe.

8.5 The prize will be mail delivered to the winner Entrant’s residential address.

8.6 All contact information provided will be used solely for the purposes of this contest. 9.1 Two prizes will be awarded.

9.2 The prize consists of one (1) Sobeys Gift Card worth $250 (CAD).

9.3 The prize must be collected by August 30, 2019.

9.4 General Conditions for all prizes:

(a) Prizes must be accepted as awarded. Prizes are non-transferable and non-redeemable for cash. No substitutions are permitted, except with the permission of MVRD, which reserves the right to substitute any prize with a prize of equal or greater value. The odds of winning any prize depends on the total number of eligible entries entered into the contest in accordance with the Contest Entry Procedure set out in section 5 above.

(b) No cash or compensation will be offered in exchange for the prize.

9.5 All claims, disputes or issues will be decided in a court of competent jurisdiction within the Province of British Columbia.
