Best Ways To Store And Use Milk

Best Storage

The fridge is the best place to store milk.

Store your milk in the coldest part of the fridge, on the middle shelf and placed near the back. Keep a close eye on the best before date.

Ensure your fridge is set between 0 and 4°C.

Can I Freeze It?

Yes.

Freeze small quantities of milk before the best before date. Defrost in the fridge overnight and use within 24 hours. Alternatively, freeze milk in ice cube trays for popping straight into your hot drink!

Use It Up

Trust your nose! Milk, when stored properly in the coldest area of the fridge, can last beyond the best before date. Do the sniff test, and if it smells off, throw it out.

From frozen, once milk has been defrosted and thawed, consume within 24 hours. Use milk in sauces, puddings, scones, smoothies or custard.

Walnut bread pudding with vanilla caramel sauce

Making caramel sauce requires a watchful eye, as sugar tends to burn easily, going from golden and sweet to dark and bitter in an instant. Our recipe uses water to start the caramel, which slows down the cooking process of the sugar, making it easier to control.
